Passivhaus Standard
The Passivehaus (Passive House) standard ensures a building is energy-efficient that slashes heating / cooling energy use by up to 90% compared to typical buildings. The requirement for a Passivhause is 0.6 ACPH (Air Changes per Hour).
OUR WALL SYSTEM
To achieve the enhanced wall u-values needed for Passivhaus, we use the Larson Twin Wall System that is fully filled with an eco insulation material. Two parallel vertical members are connected by plywood gussets, the inner (loadbearing) leaf is constructed using 38x140 cls timbers while the outer leaf is constructed using 38x63mm cls. timber.
Fixed to the outer 38x63 cls. leaf is a breathable 12mm MEDITIVE VENT sheet material, and membrane, this allows the wall to breathe. The inner leaf is fitted with 12.5mm PROPASSIVE sheet materials, all joints, and junctions are taped with with an airtight tape ensuring the house is airtight and draught free.
OTHER FACTORS
There are other factors that are taken in to consideration to enable the building to reach the required level:-
- Airtight membranes and tapes.
- Triple glazed windows.
- Mechanical ventilation and heat recovery system (MHVR).
